Curious about Vegan Collagen?
Collagen is something that is frequently spoken about; if you are curious about including collagen into your lifestyle but prefer a clean plant based (vegan) option I am really excited to share this with you.
With the anti-aging properties promoted by collagen, vegan collagen also has the potential to reduce wrinkles, increase skin hydration and promote more supple and youthful skin texture. Plant-based collagen is as effective as animal collagen without the harmful elements to both animals, our bodies and the environment.
How can collagen be vegan? Instead of being sourced from animals, collagen can now be made by using genetically modified yeast and bacteria. Researchers have found that the bacteria P. pastoris, in particular, is the most effective and commonly used for genetically engineering high-quality collagen. Because there’s no production or extraction of “collagen” from these vegan collagen sources, plant-based collagen is far safer and more effective than animal collagen.
Collagen can help to reverse signs of skin aging by boosting elasticity in the skin. Drinking collagen powder can also help repair damaged skin and scarring, which seniors are more prone to than younger individuals. If you’re vegan, there are things you can eat to boost your body’s ability to naturally produce more collagen. Your body also needs foods high in nutrients like vitamin C, zinc, and copper to boost the production. Plant foods that can help with this include: Beans. As you get older, your body makes less collagen. You can’t measure exactly how much you have, but when it drops you may have symptoms such as joint pain or stiff tendons or ligaments. Your muscles may weaken. You could also have papery skin.
Flax seeds are an excellent plant-based source of omega-3. Omega-3 fatty acids are healthy fats commonly associated with minimizing the risk of cardiovascular disease. These healthy fats also have collagen-boosting and healthy age-promoting qualities.
I have been using this vegan collagen for a few months and I love the results:
